Play A Note
Where code and composition converge. A unique synergy between engineering, music, and profound storytelling with feeling.
1 Passion first
Music, image, and technology begin with an idea worth expressing and a story to tell.
2 Human direction
AI is an instrument in the process — never a substitute for taste, craft, or human emotion.
3 Projects with depth
From music videos and visual storytelling to hybrid productions with cameras, greenscreens, and AI.
Not a content factory.
Play A Note focuses on selective productions with atmosphere, narrative, and creative attention.
Play A Note: a powerful collaboration between music and technology
Pascal Schardijn – Developer, Musician & Creative Technologist
Pascal Schardijn is a rare hybrid in the creative sector. With a background spanning over forty years, he bridges two disciplines that for most are worlds apart: professional musician and producer on one hand, and experienced software developer and programmer on the other. Since the age of ten, coding and composing have been inseparable parts of his life; since the age of seventeen, he has worked as a professional musician.
This dual identity is what sets Play A Note apart: Pascal doesn't just create the content; he builds the instruments and infrastructure himself. From the hardware to the software — everything is engineered, integrated, and refined by him. Playanote.nl began in 2014 as an archive for original music, studio recordings, video productions, and collaborations with various musicians. Over time, it evolved into an independent creative workspace for audio, video, and visual storytelling.
Video Editor 4.0
Autonomous, hybrid, and open-source.
Video Editor 4.0 is not a separate AI experiment but the next step in a long creative journey through music, image, and technology. As a developer, Pascal built a dedicated high-end local AI server in 2025 and developed the custom software tools and workflows required to bring his vision to life — fully independent of external cloud services.
Around seven months ago, the system made its first creative debut with Engelien Ontwaakt — the first tribute production created with the Video Editor 4.0 workflow. It brought together original music, storytelling, human editing, visual experimentation, and locally operated AI technology.
Rather than relying entirely on closed commercial subscription services, Pascal deliberately follows an independent route. The Video Editor 4.0 ecosystem runs exclusively on local hardware and advanced open-source models. As a programmer, he trains, fine-tunes, and optimizes these AI models himself — ensuring absolute creative freedom, direct control over the workflow, and 100% privacy.
AI is not the purpose of the work, nor a replacement for creativity. It is another instrument — alongside composition, sound recording, camera work, greenscreen, editing, VFX, and human direction.
This defines him as a Creative Technologist in the purest sense. He doesn't just write the script or music; he develops the technical means that allow an idea to take shape. From cameras and greenscreens to AI animation; from sound design and visual post-production to a fully self-developed local production environment.

Software architecture, hardware engineering, local AI servers, fine-tuning, and custom open-source tools.
Concept development, storytelling, script, music production, recording, and camera work.
Video editing, VFX, compositing, AI video and audio workflows, mixing and mastering.
A musical and visual archive
Playanote.nl is more than a look toward new technology. It is also an archive of years of passion for music, image, and collaboration. The projects on this website — from original compositions and studio recordings to live registrations and video work — form the artistic foundation of our current work.
This experience with handcrafted productions, music, greenscreen, and visual storytelling is the bedrock upon which Video Editor 4.0 continues to evolve.
Play A Note does not focus on fast, disposable content. The goal is to create productions with atmosphere, story, and substance: music videos, artistic films, and projects where image and sound strengthen one another.
